2013 Subaru Forester 2.5i-L: owner review

This is the third Subaru we have owned since 2003, having had one Liberty and two Foresters. So why did we settle on Subaru and Forester? Basically there were three factors: presentation, all-round performance and fit.

The Subaru Forester is a very well presented SUV in styling and features. Although Subaru only changes the basic model shape every five to seven years, the shape still sits well amongst other SUVs whether it's the first-year model or last year of the model run.

The Forester, like most Subaru vehicles, is an all-wheel-drive SUV with good ground clearance. I wouldn't group the Forester as a robust cross-country 4WD, but for all general driving in all conditions on most road surfaces, the Forester holds its own if not outshines most competitors. I've not been concerned where I've taken my Forester, but within the above limits of reasonable roads, ie not rock climbing!

The fitted tyres also limit the use of the Forester to the above road surfaces. I'm not sure what it would do with more aggressive tyres.

And the Forester is a great fit – with the higher ground clearance, the seat position is just right for average-height people to back straight onto the seat, and yes, they are comfortable, especially with the heated seat feature on cold days. The Forester offers amazing all-around vision from inside the vehicle with very few blind spots, and none that caused us any concern.

So, if you are looking for a medium-sized SUV, you must consider the Subaru Forester. Happy driving!
